Many people think that cheese board is charcuterie, but is not. Charcuterie means cured meat board, with different sides. Anyway, today we are going to make a cheese board! It makes any occasion more special and moreover, gives the final touch to the table. Which Cheese Can I Use?
Well, the answer is that you can use ALL the different cheese types that you can imagine!
For example soft cheese like Brie, Mozzarella, Camembert, Feta, Goat cheese and so on.
Semi soft cheese as Fontina, Limburger, Blue cheese, Morbier, Malvarosa etc.
Semi hard cheese Gouda, Provolone, Cheddar, Cantalent Young, Cacio de Roma and much more.
Hard cheese Manchego, Swiss Emmental , Petit Basque, Mimolette, Pecorino Romano.
Which Sides Can I Use On My Cheese Board?
CRUNCH: You can use different crackers, bread, bread sticks and you can dip them to cream cheese or sour cream dip wit garlic or herbs.
FRESH CRUNCH: Veggies like carrot sticks, cherry tomato, cucumber sticks and for dipping hummus or cream cheese.
SWEET BITES: Fruits as strawberries, grapes, apples, pears, figs. Or dried fruits like dates, apricot or cranberries.
FOR SOUR: Pickles, olives, capers. I love a little sour bite for my cheese board!
SAVORY: Cured meat like prosciutto, salami, jamon iberico, pepperoni, paio, lonzino. Then add some nuts, salted or roasted. Salty peanuts, roasted almonds, pistachios and walnut.
DIPPING: Cream cheese, pear jam, fig jam, sweet mustard, sour cream dips. By the way, my favourite is hummus! I think it goes with everything. But people are different and that’s why you should always have more than one option on the table!
Can I Make Healthy Cheese Board?
Of course you can! Just use low-fat cheese like Monterey, Provolone, Mozzarella, Feta or hard cheeses with strong taste, then you don’t go “overboard”. Secondly skip the cracker and bread part, better use more veggies like carrots, seller and cucumber. Also for the dipping you should prefer hummus or home made yogurt based tip with herbs or garlic. You can also use berries like strawberries, blueberries or raspberries. And of course nuts! But always think like this: you can eat everything if the amount is right!
